On Line Catalog and Schedule of Classes Help

At the request of OSU Academic Affairs the Business Solutions Group (BSG) of the College of Business has developed this on line version of the catalog and schedule of classes.  This help file can help you get started and answer your questions as you use this new resourse.  The index is linked to the sections in the help file to allow you to jump quickly to the section you are needing help with.  Just click on the section heading in the index. 

It should be noted that this is not the registration system for the university.  We suggest that students who are registering open their connection to the university registration system http://oregonstate.edu/registrar/ and another window with this system.  (http://catalog.oregonstate.edu/ )  This will allow you to use the search engine of the Schedule of Classes to copy and paste the CRNs for courses you want directly into the registration grid.

II. Search

The search feature allows you to do a search for any word or phrase that is included in the catalog.

You can refine your search by checking or unchecking the boxes next to the section headings in the Advanced Search window.  (See image below)

You can search for words or phrases in the items listed in the search options.  You can eliminate sections by unchecking the box next to the listing.  If the box is checked it will search for your words in that section of the catalog.

III. Colleges and Departments

This section allows you to browse all the colleges and academic departments by clicking on the college/department name and then on any links to degree programs/minors/certificates to view the course requirements for the program you chose. 

IV. Courses & Schedules

A. Course Catalog

1. Baccalaureate Core Courses - This will provide a list of courses offered.  The Course Designator is highlighted and is a link to a page that will give you the course description and a table showing you all relative information regarding the course.  See example below:
   
   
   
   
2. You can change the columns that are displayed by checking (displayed) or unchecking (not displayed) the boxes next to the column heading descriptions above the table.  You can also filter your search further by clicking on the "New Filter" button.  This will allow you to show only open courses and or courses offered on days and times you specify. 
   
   
3. Graduate Courses by Subject - Click on a subject to retrieve the list of course descriptions for that subject.  You can choose the level and or campus by clicking on the drop down menus with those labels. 
   
   
4. Search Catalog Course Descriptions - Choose the course subject by clicking on the subject in the list box.  Choose the level of course and the campus.  Then you can limit the search by entering the limiting words in the boxes at the bottom of the page.
   
   
   
   
5. Undergraduate Courses by Subject - Choose the level of course and the campus you want to search.  Then choose the subject you are looking for.  This will bring up the course information for this subject.  You can change the term, campus and level in the drop down windows at the top.  Click on the "Go to Schedule" link to view the courses related to this subject as filtered by your choices.  Then click on the Course title to view more information regarding this course offering.

B. Schedule of Classes

1. Baccalaureate Core Schedule - From this link you can choose what information you would like to view about each of the Baccalaureate Core Courses.  In the first box you can choose the term.  In the next box you can choose the baccalaureate Core Catagory.  Next you can choose which columns you want to include in your view of classes.  Put a check mark in each box to the left of the titles of the columns you want to show.  Next you can choose whether or not to look only for courses that are open (those that have available seats), by putting a check mark in the box next to the "Open Courses Only" label.  Now click on the "Search" button.  This will "filter" your search for classes based on the choices you made.  Scroll down to view the courses.  You can also click on the course designator (i.e. HHS 231) to view a description of the course and all sections for this course. 
   
   
   
2. Graduate Schedules by Subject - Clicking on this link will give you a list of the Graduate Course Subjects that are available.  It will default to the current term and the Corvallis Campus, however you can change those by clicking the drop down arrow next to the "Term Offered" and "Campus" then click on the "Search" button.
   
   
3. Print Schedule of Classes - MySOC - This lets you print a list of classes in the departments you choose.  You will need to choose the term, the level and the campus for the courses you want to view.  Make those choices and then click the "Next" button.  Now you will be asked to choose the subject codes (Course Subjects) you are interested in. 
   
   
   
   You can choose up to four subjects.  You do not have to choose four.  When you are ready, click either on the "Get SOC List in HTML" button or the "Get SOC LIst in Word" button.  Either can be printed.
   
   
4. Registration Information - This will give you textual information regarding the following topics:

5. Search all Schedule of Classes - Here you can search for any course by subject, Course Level, or location.  You can limit your search for courses who's title or description contains certain words or phrases.  You can limit your search to specific times courses are offered, or by instructors, delivery method, grading mode or by Baccalaureate Core sub-catagories.  See image below: 
   
   
   
   
   First choose the Course Subject, Level, and Location ("Course Offered Through").  You can put a check mark in the "Show only open classes" if you want to weed out courses that are full.  Now choose the term you are interested in from the drop down list.  You can limit your search by entering words to search for in the next line.  For example you may want to look for a course that has a topic of Sustainability or Art or Mental Health, etc.  In the next box you can choose to search for classes that are offered specific days, times, with specific instructors, how the course is delivered, and by what grading method is used. 
   
   
   
   
   
   You can limit your search to just Baccalaureate Core Courses by putting a check in the Limit box.  If you do put a check in that box the last section will be active.  In there you can choose which Bac Core sub-categories you can search for.  When you have set all your criterea click the Search Button. 
   
   
6. Undergraduate Schedules by Subject - Use the drop down menus to choose a term, the level of the course, and the campus you want to search for a course in.  Next choose the course subject and click on it.  This will give you a list of courses offered in this category.  You can set the columns to view by clicking in the boxes next to the heading titles.  (See image below)  You can change the level and click on the search button again.  If you click on the course title you can see the course description and other information about the course.

The sections listed under Degrees and Programs will give you general information or more specific information regarding the topics listed in the table below.  When you open a topic, you will have the opportunity to click on more specific headings that will give you more detailed information regarding the sub-topic.
